Eine Kleine Dantmusik - Euro 2024 Day 14 27/6/24

Apologies for the lack of updates - due to a lot of travelling and prepping that hasn't left an awful lot of time for blogging! So let's catch up...

Well, I spoke too soon about the whole “rarely stayed in a hotel booked for us that felt dodgy” thing in an earlier blog on here.

Having let the train take the strain from Berlin to Dortmund on Saturday morning and then negotiated a very lively station concourse filled with excitable Portuguese and Turkish fans heading for Signal Iduna Park, Team Red found its collective way to our next accommodation.

Stuttgart - or at least the part of the city that we are staying in - is charming. Our hotel is on the fringe of a little community suburb with nice houses and a very relaxed vibe indeed.

The hotel itself is lovely too. As you’ll no doubt have experienced at one time or another, booking a hotel is something of a lottery as you never quite know what to expect when you arrive, check in and then open the door to your room to see what you are presented with.

And so to day 3 and my first game of the tournament. You spend the night before flapping that you haven’t prepped enough, that you don’t have the pronunciations right for half the players, you think you’re going to lose your train of thought completely multiple times during the game etc etc etc. The excitement of doing the job is almost matched by some odd belief that you can’t do that job no matter how experienced you are in tournament football.

Eine Kleine Dantmusik - Euro 2024 Day 1 14/6/24

Back in 2006 when I did several “off-tube” commentaries for talkSPORT during the German World Cup, little did I think that I’d be flying out to that same country 18 years later to participate in my 6th sojourn abroad at a major football championship. South Africa, Brazil, France, Russia & Qatar have been blogged about here before, so why not go for it again and give you a flavour of Deutschland!

Monday 13th May 2024 - My talkSPORT Season 23/24

My 20th season for talkSPORT is coming to a conclusion, save for a Euro Conference League final to commentate on - not to mention the Euros that start in mid-June over in Germany, then the World Matchplay Darts kicks in come July and THEN the Olympics looms large as July becomes August. This will be one of those summers where it’ll be hard to tell when one ‘season’ ends and another one begins!

A new show on Planet Rock!

Submitted by Ian on

Great news!

After 8 years filling in as 'the cover guy' on Planet Rock, I will now have my own show on the UK's biggest rock radio station!

It starts 7pm MONDAY 2ND OCTOBER - entitled "Monday Night Rocks" as kind of a sister show to Andy Shier's Friday Night Rocks at the same timeslot

It's a chance for me to make a little corner of Planet Rock my own and play some big tunes to help you forget that it's only the start of the working week so you can smash on through to the weekend.
