Comedy Sketch Writer

Over the years spent at BRMB & Heart, I not only learned how to become a better broadcaster (you may disagree!!) but also used my voice talents and current affairs knowledge to write and perform comedy sketches and songs to be used on my radio shows.

You can hear just a few of those sketches here - some of them were written based around one story in that day’s news (so apologies if some of it sounds a tad dated!) whilst others like ‘Black Country Bob’ and ‘Des’ Diary’ were what are known as ‘benchmarks’ i.e. regular items that featured most if not every day on the show.

I’m told by many listeners that I’ve bumped into over the years that car factories and offices all over Birmingham and the West Midlands used to practically ‘down tools’ when they heard Des or Bob come on their radio at work, so desperate were they to hear what they were up to – it’s something of which I am immensely proud.
