It’s not every day that 2 legends & guitar icons walk into the music shop where you work, but that’s precisely what happened at Musical Exchanges, Snow Hill in Spring 1994 when Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath brought one Eddie Van Halen into the store to borrow a guitar! Van Halen were on a UK tour and had a day off, so Eddie wanted to jam with Sabbath in their Brum rehearsal space. However, all his guitars had gone to Sheffield for VH’s gig the next day, so he wanted to borrow the EVH signature guitar we had in stock just for the afternoon!! Gaz Morris is the other chap in this legendary pic – he dryly asked Eddie for a form of identification when he was taking the guitar, and the gag went straight over Eddie’s head! Must’ve been the gin…I can’t remember - when the guitar was returned to us - whether we advertised it as being ‘played by Eddie Van Halen himself!!’ I do wonder sometimes who actually owns that guitar now…?
