Des Lynam saw the funny side of this (thankfully) and it was easily the longest running sketch I performed during my BRMB/Heart career. A simple pretext really – dishy Des, the housewife’s choice reads out a dedication to a local store, office or shop in a trade where it emerges he once worked. Cue a minute or so of double entendres as he reinforces the stereotype of the lothario we all hope he is.
Again this bit was staggeringly popular on air– loads of businesses wanted specific mentions for them from Des, and the crowning glory for him/me came at the 2001 BRMB ‘Party In The Park’ at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, where, in front of around 30,000 Brummies, I sang a version of Craig David’s ‘7 Days’ with its words rewritten for good old Des chasing after his colleague Gabby Yorath – surreal doesn’t even begin to sum that one up…promise I’ll dig that tune out and put it up here when I’ve found it!!
